Why are you removing the desktop app?
Because of heavy budget cuts we can no longer support the desktop platform and will be shutting it down. We regret the circumstances that require this action to be taken and hope that you will enjoy access to Glo Bible resources through the iOS and Android apps. The removal of the desktop app will occur on November 14th.
Now that the desktop application will be shut down, how can I access my notes, bookmarks and highlights?
You can download the iOS or Android app and login there to access all of your notes, highlights and bookmarks. They will not be accessible via desktop after the 14th of November.
How is Glo Bible different from other Bible apps?
Glo Bible is unique in that it connects several forms of media with the Scriptures. Glo Bible is created by some of the most experienced group of Christian software developers in the world.
Which translations will be available on glo?
Right now we are preloading the ESV translation for free. We also offer the American Standard Version, King James Version, and Christian Standard Bible for free. However, we do have to charge for certain translations because they are owned by publishers. Such translations that are available for purchase include New International Version, The Message, New Living Translation, and New King James Version.
What is the pricing model going to be?
Glo Bible is free for everyone. The free version allows users to access the Bible, audio, plans, and all notation tools. One unique element in glo Bible is the ability for us to connect content to the scriptures. We allow users to purchase additional content that they find most interesting.
One piece of content is glo premium which is designed to be a dynamic resource with fresh content published regularly and updates. The subscription model allows us to acquire, tag, and develop the best content we can, while making sure the app is maintained with updates. This also allows us to keep the app free for those that are exploring the Bible. We will be starting the new subscription model at just $5 a month. This model is consistent with other models that we’ve seen out there. Software is either sold as a one time large purchase with no updates (Microsoft Office 2007, 2010, 2013, etc.), or a subscription model with updates (Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Online, Netflix, etc.). Kickstarter and previous glo Premium supporters will be grandfathered into the new glo premium.
Commentaries and content from other publishers (translations, etc.) are sold through the platform separately.
What about Windows Mobile development?
Right now, because of limited demand we plan on holding off on Windows development. Given future demand we’ll be assessing whether to start development on a Windows glo.
Why now?
For a long time now, we’ve been gathering feedback from users and doing quite a bit of research. This has been a long and rewarding process. For the past year, we’ve put together a new team from the ground up, with a new vision. We’ve been developing relationships with various partners and content creators such as Zondervan, Crossway, Francis Chan, etc. We have also partnered with Fishermen Labs, a top app development agency to develop a reliable and quality app. All this has taken a lot of time and effort, but we’re happy to say that it’s really paid off.
How do you filter what content to use?
Right now we are partnering with the most reputable scholars, pastors and content creators but as we scale we plan on opening up the publishing platform to others. We recognize that content will need to be vetted and are working on formalizing how this is done.
Do you have a statement of faith?
Yes, this is our statement of faith:
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and the inerrant Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:21).
We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30).
We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:34-35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (I Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25; I Corinthians 15:4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal return to earth in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11-16).
We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of the human nature, and that all are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ, and that only by God’s grace through faith alone are we saved (John 3:16-19; John 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5).
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of life, and those who are not unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).
We believe in the spiritual unity of the believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28).
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, Who gifts us to accomplish Christ’s purposes in the world and Who manifests His presence to the world through Christ’s church (Romans 8:13-14; Romans 12; I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; I Corinthians 12; I Corinthians 14; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18).
We believe that we as Christians are examples of the love of God in this world. It is this (agape) love that we desire to possess and without which we have no right to call ourselves Christians (I John 4:16-17).
What happens to the various versions of glo?
We’re happy to say that we’ll be consolidating the various versions of glo into a single app. This reduces the need to download various versions. We will slowly retire the other versions as we start to consolidate content into the new glo.
